Okazaki fragment在不同的organisms有不同的size

The basic factor that influence the size of the Okazaki fragment is the number of simultaneous firing of origin of replication. For example, in the higher eukaryotic organism, because their genome are much more larger, in order to finish replicating the entire genome within a reasonable amount of time is to have many many origin of replication to fire at the same time. When more origins are being replicated and are much closer to each other, the size of the okazaki fragment is therefore shorter.

In prokaryotes I believe the Okazaki fragment are about 2-3kbp, but in human they are only 200-300 bps.

Okazaki fragment中文: 岡崎氏片段 說明:DNA之雙股部份分開為單股,以DNA之一股為模板,向一定的方向合成短片的DNA鏈,再以另外一股DNA為模板,向一定的方向合成新的DNA短片。這些短片段以DNA接合脢(DNA ligase)結合成為長鏈。尚未複製的部份DNA,則繼續分開合成短片的DNA,之後再將這些片段連接。DNA之複製即反覆上述步驟進行。 定義:當DNA進行複製時,初期所形成的短小DNA片段。1968年由R.
