Taiwanese ancestors came from China hundreds of years ago, mostly from the coastal province of Fujian.  Its language is what we called Taiwanese today.  Nowadays, Mandarin Chinese, due to its status as the official language of Taiwan, is spoken much more frequently than Taiwanese.  I added due to its status as the official language of Taiwan to explain why.

The ancestors of Taiwanese came from China about hundreds years ago, most of them came from Fujian province by the coast. The language those people speak is what we called Taiwanese today. Nowadays, we use Mandarin, which is official language, more often than use Taiwanese.
