我們常會用 "貴" 來表示尊敬
例如:貴公司 ,貴校...
不只如此,還有許許多多的敬語,在與人通信或與人交談時,都不免用上一兩個!
那英文裡有敬語的用法嗎? 例如: "貴公司"該表達?
搜尋大家問過的問題,似乎在中文,日文和韓文,敬語的使用比較頻繁
應該是因為民族性的不同吧!
那在英美文化,他們是如何表示他們的敬意呢?

貴公司 = your esteemed company, your honorable company
貴單位 = your esteemed office
來函敬悉 = acknowledged your esteemed letter
請問貴庚 = May I know your honorable age?
貴賓 = honorable guest
貴客 = valued customer, honorable customer, (不可以說 valuable customer)
本公司最尊貴的客戶們 = The most valued customers of our company.
金與銀 = precious metal = 貴金屬,那銅與鐵 = base metal = ? 金屬

就書信而言, 本公司與貴公司的如....
"your-goodself"
"our-goodself"
With refer to the telecoversation in between "your-goodself" Mr Peter Lee and "our-goodself" Ms May Hsu, ............
根據貴公司的李皮特輿本公司的徐美小姐的電話對話, .........

"貴"這字在中文,翻成白話是"你的"
在英文也一樣, 當我們在說貴姓.貴庚.貴國......etc.
我們也適用"你的"
Eg: Your name; Your age; Your country......etc.
在問句中,我們都使用May或是Could,用以強調"Your"為敬語 (Polite)
Eg: May I ask your name? ; Could I have your name, please? = 貴姓
May I know your age? = 貴庚
當然以上的問句也可以使用Can,但是以May和Could感覺較為客氣.禮貌!

貴公司、 貴校都是我們翻譯出來的, 他們就只是用Your company 或 your school 罷了如果是「敬啟者」則是:To whom it may concern.
