Want to know further about the criterias for entering fraternity?
By parent's social status, bank deposit or something else?
Actually, I don't like those students of fraternity even my American friend don't like them either. 海怪, can you specify how you enter fraternity?

Fraternities are student organizations. Normally, they would have a Head Quater setup some where, and have Chapters in each schools or universities. In those very highly ranked schools such as Harvard, Stanford and so on, Fraternities are a part of social class representation. The requirement for entering those organizations are extremely high. For average or upper-mid schools, these organization are best for parties and friendships (or brotherhood to be more precise). However, there will be a problem if you considering joining any - racial issues.

Except for acquiring opposite sex friends, they might help you in homeworks, exams (some does have files for past tests).

Fees are required normally, and it depends on the level of your school, and the size of the organization within the school.

By the way, the names are normally represented by "Greek Letters".

兄弟會 = fraternity (a chiefly social(聯誼的) organization of men students at a college or university, usually designated by Greek letters)姊妹會 = sorority兄弟會或姊妹會 = 認識異性, 跳舞派對,喝酒派對, 喝酒, 喝酒, 再喝酒.... =================================To join a fraternity or sorority, you need to go through something called "Pledge". You are "tested" to see whether you are "fit" to join the brotherhood/sisterhood. Each chapter of the fraternity has its own "special pledging tradition". A lot of them involves "proofing" yourself in courage, leadership, determination, and etc by passing tests or doing tasks the brotherhood decided. Most of them are stupid and dangerous such as sneaking into a girl's dorm to steal some underwear or running naked in the middle of winter around campus. A lot have to do with how much and how fast can you put the beer or liquor down. Every few years you will hear about some "pledges" die in some stupid accident from falling out the second floor window, drunk driving, liver failure due to too much alcohol in the body. Rape is a very common thing while most of them were never reported because the girl was passed out and did not know who or how many of them did it.There are fraternities and sororities for white only, but there are also some for black only. Of course you can try to pledge as an Asian, but only a few could make it in.To be fair, there are also some fraternities focusing on academic instead of social, but their numbers are few.
