In the evening 是正確的
畢竟是在這個(evening)時間內
而不是說剛好時間到的意思 (On time)
Evening 表示的是一個時間範圍內（也就是晚上的時間）
所以是用 In 不是 On

特定的時間用 on。

遇到evening, afternoon, 或是morning的時候要用in沒錯
但假如指的是某一天的早上中午或下午那應該用"on"
例如:I do exercise "in" the mornig.
I did exercise "on" Sunday morning.
