why is it than!?Why not then?
I thought then means "after something"(I ate and then drank) and than is used in comparing(he is older than her)

no sooner ... than 表示 "一...就"
例:No sooner had I opened the door than the telephone rang.
我剛剛打開門電話鈴就響了。
No sooner had he arrived home than he started another journey.
= As soon as he arrived home, he started another journey.
他才剛剛到家又跑去開始另一個旅行。
註: no sooner後往往要接完成式的倒裝形式。所以變成 had he而不是 he had.

使用 "than" 而不是 "then" 因為 no sooner ... than 是一個 set phrase，你可以想像說它是一個比較的句子，類似 He is no better than me。

因為前面的動作「沒有比後面的動作快很多」
「沒有比較快」→"no sooner...than..."
所以才會翻成「一...就...」
如果只是死背句型的話
句型會多到背都被不完
試著去理解它會容易很多

整句話的意思是↓
他一到達家裡，就開始了另一個旅程。
則用No sooner ...than... （＝As soos as... ）
No sooner ...than...表示時間的連接詞 意指「一...就...」之義
