這首歌是青春偶像保羅安卡寫於一九五六年的歌，當時他才十五歲而已。歌曲內容是描述他年少時居住在加拿大渥太華市，情竇初開暗戀鄰居少女Diane Ayoub的複雜情緒，對方當時也才十八歲。

Kenny Loggins與他的兄長Danny感情極好，1972年，Danny初為人父，寫信向Kenny報告喜訊，信中充滿了一個父親的感情與希望，Kenny深深受到感動，擷取了兄長來信裡的部份辭句以及感覺，加上他自己的詮釋，譜成了這首「Danny's Song」，當作送給兄嫂和他們新生兒的獻禮，同時收錄在他與Messina的首張專輯裡，雖然未曾打進排行榜，但是那種初為人父的幸福和喜悅卻引起了不少迴響，Anne Murray也因而採用了這首歌曲，並且在排行榜上獲得了優秀的成績，不過在她的版本裡面，刪除了部份個人意味比較濃厚的歌詞，讓它顯得更為大眾化。它的詞曲都十分的雋永，即使經過了四分之一個世紀，依然能夠讓剛為人父母的人感同身受，流露出會心的微笑。

Beautiful boy其實是約翰藍儂寫給兒子西恩藍儂( Sean Lennon )的歌。約翰藍儂結過兩次婚，第一次的婚姻和前妻生下了朱利安藍儂( Julian Lennon )，他和"披頭四"的作曲搭檔保羅麥卡尼合寫了 Hey, Jude 送給了朱利安。後來約翰藍儂又和日籍的小野洋子( Yoko Ono )結婚，生下西恩藍儂，並寫下 Beautiful boy送給他。

　和兩任妻子生下的兩個孩子長大後都克紹箕裘，步入歌壇。朱利安在８０年代中期即連續發表了幾張頗受好評的個人專輯；較晚出生的西恩在１９９８年推出首張個人專輯「迎向陽光」( Into the sun )，也獲得不錯的評價。

艾瑞克萊普頓在西洋樂壇素有"吉他之神"的美譽，五十多歲方育得一子，然造化弄人， 一九九一年三月，才四歲大的愛子康諾( Conor )竟從紐約數十層高的公寓住家意外摔下身亡，艾氏傷痛之餘，寫下此曲，以紀念亡兒。
　後來，艾瑞克萊普頓參與電影「Rush」（台灣並未公映）配樂的編寫，在他的堅持下，這首歌出現在電影中，並成為他有史以來最暢銷的單曲，曾在告示牌雜誌的百大單曲榜上連續四週高掛亞軍，售出數百萬張。兒子去世一年後，艾瑞克萊普頓應MTV頻道之邀，舉辦不插電演唱會，演唱了這首曲子，真情流露思子之心，感動了在場及電視機前的所有歌迷。因為這首歌，這場演唱會的實況錄音於一九九二年八月發行成專輯後，在告示牌專輯榜上留連了超過兩年，全球共售出一千萬張。
