Hard/ Hardly 堅硬 和「幾乎不」的分別
1. 基本用法解釋:
Hard 和Hardly 兩個字雖然看起來好像意思差不多,其實意思是完全不一樣的。Hard 是指堅硬的、 辛苦的、難的之意。而Hardly是指 幾乎不 的意思。
2. 錯誤發生情況及修正:
A. Hard 可當形容詞或副詞時,意思是 難的、硬的、辛苦的、嚴格的意思。可用於形容人、天氣、 或任何事物。
例:1. I feel very hard to please my boyfriend. (×)
My boyfriend is very hard to please. (O)
要取悅我男朋友很難。
2. Professor Emmerson is a severe marker. (×) <古英文>
Professor Emmerson is a hard grader. (O)
艾墨笙教授分數打的緊。
3. It rains hardly. (×) [It hardly rains. 意思是﹕幾乎不下雨!]
It rains hard. (O)
下大雨了或 雨下得很大。
4. She hits me strongly. (×)
She hits me hard. (O)
她大力打我。
5. I will work hardly. (×) [hardly work意思是﹕幾乎不工作。]
I will work hard. (O)
我會努力地工作。
注意:這裡的hardly不是副詞,而是「幾乎不」的意思。這裡的hard可當副詞。
B. Hardly 副詞形式,有幾乎不的意思。要注意hardly的用法是,不能再接否定的助動詞或是任何否定的字。
例: 1. He has hardly eaten nothing since that morning. (×)
He has hardly eaten anything since that morning. (O)
從那天清晨之後,他幾乎沒再吃過任何東西。
2. I cannot hardly walk any further. (×)
I can hardly walk any further. (O)
我再也走不動了。
3. I had hardly left home than it began to rain. (×)
I had hardly left home when it began to rain. (O)
Hardly had I left home when it began to rain. (O)
[注意這裡:Hardly 放句首時,句子要倒裝。]
