What do you think of America?

Question

I know the rest of the world has a negative opinion of the USA. Why? What do you think about us? Be honest. But remember, a lot of us have no control over what out government and military does. I'm just a civillian.

Many Frenchmen resents the US because:
-Bush
-messing with Irak
-global warming (driving SUVs etc)
-gun policy
-certain lifestyle (trashTV, fast food, obesity....)

In 2008 you can (hopefully) take off the first two gripes
Fortunately there's also a bunch of America lovers too such as the new president 'Sarko'.

A good way to see it is to say that France and America are brothers (particularly since 'Normandie'). One is big and powerfull, the other one is smaller and gourmet. It's normal that they tease each other but eventually there are still brothers

You are right, the image of America is bad in many parts of the world but that is because of the foreign policy of President Bush. In many other areas, America looks very attractive.
Personally, I would like to recall two memories. One dates back to my teenager days. Our teacher of English managed to take us to an American school in an American military base. We young French boys were first exposed to coeducation with boys and girls and we were very shy and
embarrassed, whereas our American counterparts, though a little younger, were perfectly at ease with their girl friends in the class room....
Later on, many years later, I was invited by an American friend of mine to a lunch with some of his fellow countrymen.
During the meal, someone tackled the subject of the origin of man and they all produced all sorts of interesting views on the subject whereas I was completely dry. It was then that I realized that the supposed lack of culture of the Americans was a legend....

I have a very good opinion of americans, proof I have been living in the US for the last fifteen years. Freedom and liberty for all what a beautiful way to live.

L'Amérique est 1 pays de fous de guerres.
Si il n'y avait pas la guerre (utopie je sais), l'Amérique n'existerait quasiment pas.

En plus, on peut critiquer Sarko, mais alors Bush, il gagne tous les prix décernés à la connerie et à l'ignorance.

Si vraiment tu es Américain, faut expliquer 2 ou 3 trucs à tes compatriotes, du style que vous êtes loin d'être la meilleure nation mondiale.
Redescendez sur terre les gars, et ça va vous faire bizarre, car il n'y a pas bcp de monde qui vous aime de part le monde, car OUI, il n'y a pas que l'Amérique.......

The world has a negative opinion of Bush gov. US people is US people, nobody with a brain can juge an entire people.
But you've chose Bush twice, and it doesn't help the world to trust USA when seeing your nation beeing constantly at war since 2003.
We don't see here if they are protest against your gov actions, if not, we tend to think you accept what your gov do.
And if you accept war like Irak War II, despite no WMD have been found, how can you be surprise the world mistrust you ?
