Dont' translate it word by word. the words in french mean basically the same thing in english, but there is a difference. If it was a match and the player played well, that means the "better player" , but in a negative sense, that means the worst player, a kind of biggest loser, because of him the team lost the game

depends on the context but i guess you could understand it as MVP, or most efficient/influential player. 'dégats' means literally damages, however in an article you can often read stuff like that, here the damages can be seen on the final score for the opposite team!! hope to have helped you!
