It is very formal it depend if you use this sentence in 2006 or in 1806. You can use this sentence to start a letter to your lover "Mon coeur" That s mean my heart and that s more modern.

just get rid of "ami" meaning my friend! Try "amour" For love! "Mon amour" meaning "My love" see! And if you're not formal lovers! Try "compagnon" this is more like a hiden meaning of "the one by my side"
