Well, I don't know.
Probably we see the France, a Country which dreams to become the most powerful nation in the world (Don't you remember the "french grandeur"? Don't you remember the nuclear experiment in the pacific ocean? Don't you remeber De Gaulle and his politicy? Don't you know that all the members of the "Brigate Rosse" live in France under protection of your spies? "Brigate Rosse" is the most dangereous italian terroristic organization, they killed many people....) and we dislike it, cause you give us the impression you feel like God, you look nasty by our eyes.
And I suppose all the french people looks at Italy as the place which mafia, criminals, corruption, fascism and treacherous men reign and can infect all the world.
And so, that's the reason you need. But I believe if 2 men want live togheter and became friends, their nationaliy is not important.

It must be backdated to the time Julius Caesar defeated the Gallic barbarians. Those that today are called French started then to really hating Romans and their descendants (we the Italians); as you know hatred begets hatred, and I think it was at that point that we've started reciprocating their bad feeling.
We call each other "transalpine cousins" but we are rather different and when somebody is not similar he suddenly dislikes the other one. The main difference I find is that they are very chauvinists, deeply nationalists, really convinced France is on the top of world while we are exactly the opposite being harsh critics with our Italy and very often we have a masochist opinion about our Country. In the past there had been also a big difference in the fine Arts. During the Renaissance mostly of the greatest artists were Italian, but really a lot of our best works of art have been stolen by the French (as first Napoleon) and are now at the Louvre or wherever else in the French republic.They have always envied us for our artists ability while we are disliking them for all their robberies. However you should post yr question on the french Yahoo to know their point of view. This is my opinion,...... but I'm not the Bible.

The two countries have ancient dislikes since many centuries, I think is in action one strongly competition between them for everything. Personally I don't like to much French poeple for theirs unpleasant graudeur
