Very sensitive movies about childhood and the discovery of life in the South of France (based on Marcel Pagnol)
- Les Bronzes (1978) / Les Bronzes font du ski (1979) / Le Pere Noel est une ordure (1982)
The top of French humor although it may be difficult to understand.
- A la folie, pas du tout (2002)
Actors that I do not normally like but the unusual script is really good.
- La Cite de la Peur (1994) / Le Diner de Cons (1997)
Same as Les Bronzes. Very very funny but very very French :)
- Les Tontons flingueurs (1963)
A classic French movie still brilliant!
- A bout de souffle (1959)
Another classic that is not too boring.
- Taxi (1998)
Maybe not ideal for your mother but a very good and funny "car" movie in Marseilles.

i suggest you to search Les Tontons Flingueurs, beautiful so funny ... peraphs a little bit difficult if your mom just start learning french ... but probably one of the most famous film in France !

I would suggest a good old classic: les Enfants du Paradis.

It's black and white (1945) and in my opinion the best French movie ever made. Very parisian. Probably one of the movie that inspired Baz Luhrmann for Moulin Rouge. It has two parts, you probably find them in a two DVD set.
