Well, it is like Italian pizza only when it has been done by an Italian cook. Otherwise it is very different. The same for the ice cream!

For nothing! I'm becoming crazy to find a good pizza in America. Even at the italian restaurant you can't eat the right one. The problem is not the dough but the filling. On the simplest (and best) pizza, called "margherita", you can simply find tomato sauce, oregan and mozzarella. Well, the problem is mozzarella. The original one is white and it's not like the yellowish one you find in the american supermarkets. Also that flavour of garlic you taste in every pizza, it doesn't fit!

It's totally different...
Italian pizza is thin, not thick like american.
It's dough is the main difference, but in american pizza you can find many ingredients impossible to find in calssic italian pizza.
Moreover both tomatoes and specially cheese (mozzarella) are prepared quite in a different way than ours...
I (as an italian) think that is much better ours, since we invented it; but generally speaking, there are some "fast foods" in italy who make pizza in the "american way" (e.g thick), and there's no comparison with yours... I've never been in america, but there're a lot of "american pizza's shops" in europe, and i don't think i'll go in those places again of my own (free) will!
Didn't mean to offend anyone, i just mean italian food is one of the best of the world, and when other countries try to copy they should do it a little better than they do.
However american pizza is not the worst i've ever tried abroad...

well it depends where you eat your pizza:
Nothing is like the pizza from the south of Italy, cause they use fresh products, they have good water, good pasta, special tomatoes, incredible fresh cheese ( Mozzarella di bufala). For the rest of Italy I think could be similar also cause there are not anymore napolitan pizza makers, but most of them are egyptians. I have been in the US about 12 years ago, I remember I had a terrible taste with the american food, but the pizza eaten at Gino's Pizza, was good, too sweet , but good...
