The 3rd conditional is used to refer to situationa in tha past.
We use the 3rd conditional to talk about situations in the past and how they could have been different.
Usually the 3rd conditional has 2 clauses, the "if clause" introduces the situation while the second clause tells the consequence of this situation if it had different.

If I had seen her, I would have told her.

If I hadn´t see her, I wouldn´t have told her.
Si yo no la hubiera visto, yo no podría haber platicado con ella.

Form

The 3rd conditional is formed by using the

If + Past Perfect:

If I had gone to the party......

and would + have + Past Participe in tha second clause:

I would have met my ex-girlfriend.

In the place of would it is possible to use other words:

If I had gone to the party, I might have met my ex-girlfriend
If I had had enough money, I could have gone on holiday.
