Der Sack der Highland (Great Highland, Half-Set, Miniature oder Parlour) Bagpipe wird mit dem Mund aufgeblasen, während bei der Lowland und Border Bagpipe der Sack mit einem Blasebalg unter dem Arm mit Luft versorgt wird. Die Luftbehälter waren früher aus der ganzen Haut eines Schafes gefertigt, heute werden dazu Leder, Gummi oder synthetische Materialien verwendet. Die Flöten-Röhren (Pipes) wurden früher aus Knochen oder Elfenbein hergestellt, heute werden sie jedoch aus Hartholz gefertigt.
