Many artists and intellectuals left England in the 1920, undertaken journeys that denoted an authentic search for an existential alternative: It was a prevailing sense of alienation that prompted these writers to travel in an exile that was in any case essentially a rejection of reality. For Lawrence , the metaphor of the journey became the cornerstone of his artistic production. By following the evolution of his journey ,which is at the same time , an inner search ,one can argue that lawrence’s experience as an exile illustrates the complex crisis that gave rise to the modernist movement in literature so that his journey may be viewed as an exemplary transcription of the modernist parable from history to myth.Integrating his poetic with his experience , a result of his pragmatic conception of literary creation and of his inability to separate the two levels , Lawrence fully explores the cognitive potential of the ancient metaphors of the journey.
