Così, questa estate venente sto vivendo a Roma per un anno. Qualche gente lo ha detto a che possa divertirsi semplicemente perché sono un americano e non molta gente come noi. È quello allineare? Conosco l'avversione della gente il nostro governo (io realmente non li incolpo di) ma spero che non odino la gente. So che ci sono "Americani ugly" ma non sono un di loro. Così, del consiglio? Grazie!
I'll ask again in English because I'm not for sure if my Italian made much sense. I went to Italy 3 years ago and thought it was just wonderful and vowed to go back again. So, this coming summer I am living in Rome for a year. Some people have told me that I may have a hard time simply because I'm an American and not many people like us. Is that true? I know people hate our government (I don't really blame them) but I hope they don't hate the people. I know there are "ugly Americans" but I'm not one of them. So, any advice? Thanks for your answers!

I do not know about Rome but i do nopt think that there is an angry against americans. As regards me if a person is a nice person is ok no matter from where he or she cames from. As far as I am concerned I have got nothing against you and against other americans like you

Hi! For what concerns me, "the more" american they are the better!!! I have a weakness for the american-english...it's a real turn on for me!
Anyway, what they told u about SOME italians is true. There are italians who hate Bush and as a consequence they hate all the american citizens. Other people are for Bush but don't particularly like americans just because of freaking stereotypes. Others just love americans. I suggest not to give a damn about close minded people whose life is based on prejudices. They are harmless, so don't worry.
My ex bf was from America and when he came here there were people who stared at him (usually old people) when he started to talk. We had such a great time! He started to imitate those old assholes saying: "Hey man, I haven't seen an american since World War II..."and things like that. I'm sure you'll find people who'll want to know everything about ur culture and that'll make u feel at home. So don't worry.
I suggest to learn some italian: not many italians speak a correct english and we are so proud of our culture. Just the simple things like: buongiorno, buonasera, come va, etc.
Another thing: be careful!American women seem to love the italian latin lover and some of the italian casanovas think that American women are sex freaks! ;-)

You can be sure ... no problems! Italian people may have a lot of ideas against USA or Palestine, Hebrews or arabs but if you are a clever and simpatic person be sure you'll find a lot of wonderful friends in Italy!
Don't worry about potitic positions .... italians are generally open to all because we are all over the world ....

Don't worry. Here in Italy there are many people with different thinking like you in America.
Someone of us (like me) are against your government but absolutely not against americans (but yankee ;) ).
I hope that your travel will be fine.

americans are like other people... some americans are kind persons and i like them, other americans are not kind and i don't like them...
but the fact that they are american, indian, italian, chinese etc is not important for me...
