although I discovered Penelope Cruz in a more complex character and Castellitto is great as usual, I didn't enjoied it as I expected after reading the novel. I think the novel works thanks to its rich and articulated language, and this aspect in the movie obviously can't be represented... the story as it is represented in the movie is quite obvious and flat, while in the novel there's not such an impression.

IMHO one of the worst movies I've seen since a couple of years. Penelope Cruz is great, but cannot lonely save a bad history translated in a movie by a poor director; who (strange!) is the husband of the writer...
Only in Italy such a movie could win any prize, both Castellitto and Mazzantini ("Premio Strega" 2002 winner with this story; WHY !?) have the aquaintances that needed...
My personal rating: 3/10

Yes, I did, but before I read the book.
I think that the book is reall better than the movie, more realistic and it touches the heart. Instead I didn't like tha movie at all..Good actors, but it didn't follow the real stor of the book.
