Sorry for my bad english.... :(
Since January 1st 2005 there is a complete new law in Germany, which regulates the permission for foreigner to stay, live and work in Germany. It is called the "Aufenthaltsgesetz"
According to this regulations (nearly) every foreigner has to request his special visa, before he comes to Germany.
There are different types of visa, but I'm unable to translate them, they have typical bureaucratically names :)
Fact is: You wrote, that you have (or will than have) a german student visa, which allows you to study here in Germany. This visa is given you according to § 16 of the Aufenthaltsgesetz.
In chapter 3 of this paragraph it is written, that you are allowed with this visa to work 90 days a year or 180 half-days a year (means they count the days you actually working). In this chapter is written too, that "studentische Nebentätigkeiten" are allowed anytime. The best translation I have found for that might be "On-Campus-Jobs"
If you like to work more than these 90 days, you have to request a permission to work at the Ausländerbehörde. But the chances to get such a permission is often quite small, because of the great amount of unemployed german people.
Hope, you could understand my answer? :)
I've found a lot of Information in the web, but all in german, even though it concerns students of foreign countries. Maybe you can get brochures and infos in your language at the german embassy in your country

If you speak at least a little German, you can find all the information needed in this paper. Most important info on page 3. http://www.daad.de/imperia/md/content/de/deutschland/downloads/infoblatt_erwerbstaetigk_zuwanderung_03_2005.pdf You can also find information (in German) on http://deutschlernen.wordpress.com

A foreign student is allowed to work max. 90 days p.a. But, before you get a german student visa, you have to prove that you have the necessary funds to put yourself through college.(monthly about 600€)

I do not know how this is today, but some years ago the "Ausländeramt" (office for forreigners) had no clear ruling about that. Basically you can work during the holidays and some hours, but definitely less than half time, during study times. The reason is simple: You are expected to study, not to work.
So far the theory. In practice nobody will check how much you work as long as you have a work permit.
If you are a registered student the "Studentenwerk" (student union, an office responsibele for student affairs) offers free legal advice for students. You may consider talking to them.

There are laws in Germany regulating the hours that a student can work without having to pay taxes.Your best bet is to ask around,i.e. co-students,or the ASTA should be able to help you.Good Luck!

I do not believe that you will be allowed to work, but I am not sure. Why don't you check on this with the Secretary of your Univerity Office. I am sure, you'll find all information you need there.
