I'd have to agree with "bananebio": People with a negative opinion about americans see them as illeterate, self-centered, and warmongers.
French people with a little more knowledge of the united states believe that the us of a is land of paradoxes, capable of the most incredible genius and the worst kind of close-mindness and ignorance; A land of freedom where people accept that their civil liberties be taken away; a welcoming country, but with bad apples that still think like a slave owner...

Pourquoi c'est possible de rester si longtemps in Q/R. I don't like Americans who only can ask their question in English.

Americans are not a problem, the problem is the goverment of United States. I have made a travel in USA seven years ago and I liked people I've met. But I don't like the American government. it wants to take over the all ressources and wants to rule the world because the USA are the weathiest in the World. This is surely why Middle estarn cab't stand the americans.

Do you mean in general ?
I am actually living abroad, so my perception of America and Americans shall not be the same as "average" French people.
First, let me remind you that most French people, not all of them, of course, do not write English enough well to answer you.
Ecoute Buddy t'auras peut-être pas les réponses que t'attends, mais on te remercie d'avoir provoqué une fois de plus ce que j'appelle " moi français animal unique, spécialiste du dégoisage sur tous mes autres compatriotes " -

French people tend to view Americans as illiterate, self-centered and selfish. It is very common to hear so-called true stories of americans who have very short notions of geography, confounding Africa with Senegal or France with Cannes. "Paris is near France, isn't it ?". Americans are also viewed like imperialists who dominate the world without any regard for others. But this negative view is counterbalanced : many people view America as the country of freedom and power, and would gratefully become american if they could afford what it takes. And I must add that americans who come here are most of the time welcome and spend a good time, unless they act in a stupid manner (shouting at every waiter a the restaurant and speaking very loudly is generally considered not polite ;).

Personally, I think that it was really stupid to elect Mr Bush Jr.
I do not think that USA is a free country and I don't envy you.
I think that American people are great though, because I have a lot of wonderful friends all over America.
But I am not average, so...
In hoping to have answered to your question.
