There are a number of things. The main argument I have is that it's a book written based on some other book and there is no proof where the original came from, who wrote it, why it was written and there is little evidence that Jesus even existed other than hearsay. I don't believe we should live our lives or base our government on some book without a source.

I have no problem with the bible. It is a very old bunch of collected stories that is written poorly, translated poorly, understood poorly, and sometimes imaginative, bloody and violent.
Some people believe it is the word of their god. I think it is fiction.

Contradictions, violence, a god that orders entire civilizations wiped out so his "chosen" people can take their land, a "loving" deity that condemns a large portion of the world to eternal damnation if they don't believe like he wants......
I could go on and on.

Some people think it is true, others think it is a work of fiction. I guess that is where the controversy lies.

Because it's used to teach falsehoods and justify murder/torture/burning at the stake/invading iraq etc etc etc
