Catholics pick a patron at Confirmation. Most never think about it again, or keep an on-going 'relationship' with that saint. Ideally, according to Catholic teachings, something should be done to mark the feast day.

Churches do have patrons, or are dedicated to various purposes. Two churches in the world, for example (and only two) are devoted to the Holy Souls (those in purgatory). One fo them is in Little Rock, Arkansas, the other is in South America.

Priests often do not announce feast days at the weekly masses, though the weekday masses the priest will often mention which saint's feast it is.

Yes, most Catholics have a patron saint -- usually the saint whose name they took in Confirmation. For example, my patron saint is Blessed Margaret of Castello, and I took her name when I was Confirmed. I celebrate her feast day by trying to do something for someone else, just as she would have done.

Catholic churches are named after Members of aspects of the Holy Trinity, implements of Christ's Passion, the saints, or angels. That's why you have churches such as "Holy Redeemer," "Sacred Heart," "Holy Cross," "St. Vincent's," or "St. Michael's."

And the priest often focuses his homily on the Saint whose feast day is being celebrated. He might talk about St. Vincent de Paul's love of the poor and how we can imitate his virtues through giving alms. Or on a feast day of the Blessed Virgin, he might discuss the way that we should think about how she was humble and trusting and apply that to our own lives.
