Not everyone is saying it. Only those who are mentally depleted. So first, I refute the everyone term used. Obviously not true. Second, look who's saying it. Mostly morons or loud mouthed, PC switch-hitters.
Ignore them.
Even better, show them something shiny and they'll forget all about it.
Ooooooh, shiny things.

HOCKEY IS THE ONLY SPORT!!! Here is why, what other sport do you have to be able to do something like skate??? How many sports have a surface that is ice??? How many sports have dangerous equipment like sharp blades on a skate, a galvanized puck that can travel upwards 100mph, and a graphite or composite stick that can maim you severely, and what sport can you fight in??? Now tell me why Football, Baseball, and Baseketball players earn 20+ million a year. Now, who said hockey wasnt a sport??? Name one sport with more respect and heart than Hockey. I hope I dont hear that Hockey isnt an American sport either. Hockey is worldwide. Respect the sport, or actually go out there and try to prove its not a sport.

I want to know who the "everyone" is that are saying hockey is not a sport. Last time I checked it was still played at the olympic level, there were leagues all over the world, with players, management, fans, etc. who in the %*$#@ is out there saying it is not a sport?

maybe you need to get more intellligent friends, or friends who do not play video games for hours on end thinking that being an expert at magic or dungeons and dragons constitutes a sport as well.

Defined as Game or competitive activity (so YES it is a sport)
usually played outdoors (which it used to be before the modern day arena .. & there still is the 'heritage' NHL games this year being played in Buffalo vs. the Penguins (the first was the year before the recent lockout between montreal & Edmonton )
& involving some physical skill (gee let's see skating on ice while still handling & shooting w/ leathal weapons on your feet YEAH I'd say that rates more so than other 'sports' ) oh yeah & more on the physical the hitting to get a player off the puck (& you can't do it to late or a penalty will be called.)

SPORT = having to be played with a team & not individual recognition.

otherwise no team.. then its only a 'game'

I once read where a (it was either a psychologist or a philosopher, I'll go with the latter) said that for something to constitute a sport it would need actual offense and defense, as well as some sort of physical fitness.

Hockey players need to be fit to skate as long, fast, and physically as they do. There is offense, where they score goals, and defense, where they try to stop the goals.

Therefore, Hockey is a sport.

I'm not sure who " everyone " is but be assured they are quite ignorant of the world of athletics. Hockey is the predominant sport of Canada where winter weather creates competition unlike anywhere in the world. Hockey requires dexterity, great hand-eye coordination, and fits any physique large or small .There are several professional hockey leagues throughout the world. It is a highly regarded sport in the Winter Olympics. Excellent teams represent, Russia, Sweden, Norway, and Canada. The US has also had its moments in the sport.

Geez, how can anyone who actually knows about sports say that it's not a sport? Probably the same people who watch lots of poker tournaments on ESPN and Fox Sports.

Never argue with idiots, CT. They just want to yank your chain. Hockey is a sport and if they can't see that, then it's beyond their comprehension. Therefore, a waste of your time to convince them that it is a sport.
