If the papers were not included when you purchased the dog, either the parents were not registered with AKC or he was sold to with an agreement that you would receive the paperwork to register him after he was desexed. If it was the former, you can apply for an ILP from the AKC. If it is the latter, simply fulfill the terms of the contract and you should get the proper paperwork.

You can't register him if his parentage is unknown. If you know his original breeder, and the papers have simply been lost, then go back to the breeder and talk to her. You CAN get an ILP number on the dog with the AKC, but that only allows you to participate in non-conformation events, and you must submit proof that your dog is neutered. Even if his parents were akc registered, the breeder has the option to only provide limited registration for the pups, which means they can be registered as purebreds, but any offspring your dog might have is NOT registerable. I think you need to ask yourself why you want to breed. You got this dog from a dubious source, what outstanding qualities does he have that you want to pass on? Unless he's an exceptional working dog of some sort, the best decision would be to have him neutered. There are thousands of homeless huskies as it is. And, are you willing to pay for genetic testing? Since you dont know his parents it is even more crucial that he be tested for hip dysplasia, congenital eye disorders and more. Not doing this will only cause heartbreak to the families who buy his pups. (I knew a family who bred thier two perfectly healthy huskies, and ended up with a pup who was completely blind by a year of age from a hereditary disorder common in huskies- testing is crucial!) Look on petfinder.com and see how many homeless huskies there are brought into the world by backyard breeders and do some serious soul searching before breeding. -Neb

I hope you can get the papers from the breeder.
They generally will provide you the basic information about the parents (IF THEY ARE BOTH AKC pure-bred) if not, all you can do is register as a pet-quality or something like that.

The site below will tell you in no uncertain terms what the requirements are.

If you are not well-versed in genetic screening and understanding the risks and benefits of becoming a breeder already - do not even try to become a casual 'backyard breeder' who hopes to become financially rich.

All you will end up doing (based on experience volunteering at humane societies) is contributing to the cycle of unwanted, ill-behaving dogs into the shelter and animal control systems.

If you are interested in becoming a reputable breeder, check out the list of breeders at the AKC site and see if there are any for the breed you want to involve yourself with and see if they can or will mentor you.

The litter owner would have had to apply for the paperwork. Without that, you cannot register the dog.

Before you will know if the dog is breedable, there are breed-specific tests to get done. For the Husky, the hips get checked for dysplasia and an OFA number is issued. Then they get themselves and the pedigrees of the dog's relatives checked for hereditary or juvenile cataracts, corneal dystrophy, and progressive retinal atrophy.

If all that comes out good, and the dog wins a few AKC dog shows, you might have a market for your pups.

FIRST the litter must be registered by the breeder - no other option for AKC reg. You can try going back to the lady & asking but recall the PARENTS must be both be registered (the point of registry being a official record of the dogs pedigree) so its entirely possible she can not get them either.

You cannot register a dog with AKC w/o exsisting papers.
Both parents (several generations back) have to be papered, as does the litter for you to be able to register with AKC.

It is possible to register with CKC, but that is not nearly as reputable.

You must have an AKC Registration form in order to register any dog. If you don't have such a form your dog can't be registered with them

In order to register your dog, you need to get the registration form from the breeder. If both parents of your dog are not registered, chances of your dog can be registered is very low. If you get him as companion, you may consider neuter him.

both parents have to be AKC registered and you have to have a breeding certificate from the breeder to register a puppy
