Well it depends from who you're talking about, if it's Alex Rodriguez then yes, he is dramatically overpaid, 275 Million Dollars is enough to set you for more than 4 lives. Even though players work hard and do a lot for what they love, they should all be paid anywhere from 100,000 to 4,000,000 tops. Both of those options are a lot of money and you can have a great life with either set amount.
Of course if you're talking from the Hideki Okajima side of things, he's only being paid 1.2 Million Dollars over 4 years. He had one of the best bullpen ERA's in the Major Leagues, and the Red Sox are paying Daisuke 40 million over 5 years. Now they also paid another 56 million just to negotiate with him. They probably thought he was a lot better than what he did in the 2007 baseball season.
When it all wraps up I would say yes, baseball players are overpaid, and some...well underpaid, thats just the way it goes. Now no matter what, no one can do anything about it, except the GM's and society. I'm going to tell you now however, that prices will increase every year, and buy 2030 the average rookie will be getting 12 million dollars a year. It's just how it works.

Overpaid in the FA market = yes
overpaid = no.
They go through 6 years were they are ALWAYS underpaid, 3years at league minimum for the rising stars of the game.
Ryan Howard gets considerably less than most backup catchers. So if he signs a 100/4 million dollar deal, I think he has earned it??
They get the money because they have earned it, plain and simple, baseball revenues have gone through the roof, in part due to the players who actually enterain people, and thats what people pay for. They deserve their share.
Compared to the average person yes? that makes no sense, If i brought in millions in revenue, I would expect a share, I don't but baseball players do.
So lets compare it to an average person, what about a good saleman can make millions a year?

Honestly Yes. I hear my dad everyday talking bout how just to play a silly game they need to get millions not thousands but MILLIONS just to play a sport. Brings up a great point is if major leaguers get paid why not college. Anyways yes they are way over paid n greedy. Then agian there are idiots who will pay these guys to just play a game. For example True Arod's a GREAT player but honestly other than some good regular reason stats what's he really achieved? He hasnt done **** in the playoffs. At baseball's biggest stage the biggest player in baseball Cant even step up to the limelite! N ur telling me he's getting 275 million dollars just to strike out? Welcome To America Mayne!

Yes I think so, and big market clubs like the Yankees and Red sox got the money where the Marlins and the Rays don't.

sometimes I think they are paid a whole lot more than what some of their skills are worth. I wonder though, whatever happend to playing for the love of the game ? I wonder if some of them were asked to play a game where there was no financial gain involved would they just go out and play for the love of the fans

Yes they are.Baseball is my favortie sport but its really unfair because thier is no salary cap. Its unfair for fans of Small market teams. Once they have a player that becomes great that cant afford to keep him and the same teams buy them.

If you compare what they earn to what you earn you would come to believe they are overpaid. If you compare their earnings based on gross profits of their teams than they are fairly compensated. It is the players the fans come to see and not the owners. Do you think some movie stars are overpaid at $20 million per movie?

If you're comparing baseball players to us average folks, then of course they are!
But when you think about it, its not just sports stars who are over-paid...movie stars and models get pretty hefty paychecks as well. And (call me crazy) but at certain times, I like watching sports more than I like watching movies!
