It takes commitment on your part to get him to sleep. My babies slept through the night by 6 months at the latest.
A sleep routine such as lullabies, changing into jammies, and I love you as you put him in his bed at the same time every night. Or a bath and a story. But be consistent. If they woke in the night I would wait for a bit before going to them, check their diaper without saying anything and offer some water in cup (at his age). Cover him up and go back to bed. It is not play time or cuddle time in the middle of the night! But make sure he has plenty of both during the day.

Most likely above 5 years old.
Your baby still need your secure. They can sense where is their mum or dad. Once you left him alone. He sure wake up and find where are you....
My son and daughter are also the same.. They cannot sleep by themselves since they are baby. Now 2 and 4...
Slowly when he grows up and decorate his own room, he might like his own room and from there he might sleep by his own.

he should have been sleeping by hiself for a while now, you should try getting some advise from the health visitor to see what they suggest, i did this and they gave me some books and leaflets to read which had techniques in them to use, good luck
