I cannot pretend. During World War Two a large boat load of American risked everything to escape from Japanese control Philippines they finally landed at French Indo-China (Vietnam). They were met with a band, salutes, and kisses on both cheeks and then promptly turned over to the Japanese. In the mid 1960's they demanded that their American dollars be converted to Gold and that we should fly it to France. Also, in that decade they pulled all their troops from NATO. They have consistently refused to pay their World War 2 debt to the United States. At almost every turn at the United Nations they have stabbed us in the back.
Pretend to like them. No way.

nope. the French are just looking out for their sweet contracts with oil producing countries. The French lack any conviction to do what is right. The French lack the courage to take actions to protect themselves. The French accuse the US of making this a war of oil, and yet, thats exactly why the French sit there, scared of the terrorists- because they depend on oil from the MIddle East Countries too. Unlike the French though, the US isn't willing to sit by and let them walk all over us. So if my opinion has changed at all, it has become even more disgusted and disappointed with the French. All the best, J

I really don't understand why so many people hate France. The United States and France are actually similar in a lot of ways:
1. We're cocky and think we're the best countries in the world.
2. Rude to foreigners.
3. Think everyone should speak the same language we speak.
Also, a lot of people seem to forget that France was our ALLY throughout World War I and World War II. They were fighting the Nazis just as hard as we were.
They were our ally as far back as the American Revolution, helping us to defeat the British. Without them, who knows if we would even be a separate country today. Also, they gave us the statue of liberty as a symbol of their support for freedom.
A lot of people are ignorant of all this and just hate France because everyone else tells them to.
The American hatred of France comes from not only ignorance of the history between the countries, but also France's refusal to go along with whatever the United States says. For example, they were against the War in Iraq. Looks like they were right about that!

You probably do like the French most of the time. Remember who it was who gave you the Statue of Liberty. When they they didn't support the war on Iraq you should have listened. So far the US has lost 3859 people in this badly planned venture.
Now of course the relationship is warming because the USA and France find they agree on Iran http://www.usatoday.com/news/topstories/2007-11-07-1728994534_x.htm

We should love each other despite our differences. It's pointless to hate on a group of people because of something that happened over 60 years ago. Holding grudges hurts those holding them, so why be so dumb about this? You should be mad at the people who ALLOWED THE WAR TO EVEN START!! If not for them there would not be so much hate being sent to the french or any other people. Get over it and look for ways to have peace without going through war first. It can be done. Stop the hate!!!!!

The French troops I worked with in Afghanistan were first rate and wished their government were more in tune with ours. With the election of President Sarkozy, I think that's going to be quite likley.

I agree. They're not all bad. And they have the right idea about 80% of their power being nuclear.
I'm a cheese person too, and instead of coffee breaks at work, they have wine breaks... Sounds nice to me.

France has the right idea:
- Universal health coverage. (the best in the world)
- Good food. (lot's of fat and lot's of garlic and morels)
- No war for petroleum.
- Legislated holiday time and limited work days.
- Wine that is almost as good as California wines.
I think that the United States can learn a lot from France.
