It depend on how you treat it. It is a tool to be enjoyed. It is a responsibility to be guarded. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure no one gets hurt with it. A gun has no feelings just, as someone suggested, like a hammer or a tool. When a crazed murdered kills people it is the fault of the crazed murdered, not the gun. If you go on a rampage with a gun it's because you are a criminal, murderer, killer first and are using the gun as a tool for your insanity just as you could use the #2 weapon of choice - the knife. Or a rope. Or poison. Or your car. Respect the gun and the gun will respect you.

Neither. A firearm is nothing more than a tool, an inanimate object. It is no better nor no worse than the person that uses it.
