The Iranians and the fringe radical muslim groups sure make a strong case for eventual annihilation, to me. Throw in Pakistan and North Korea and what else can you expect? We are so doomed. Plus, the wildcard is Russia; they just don't give a damn.

People are just no damned good.

Would a series of nuclear strikes tend to have an accerating effect on the environment and what of the surviving flora and fauna? Yes, doomsday seems pretty damned inevitable. How long do we have? Evolution? De-evolution? Has this happened before, maybe?

I don't thik annihilation is inevitable. Annihilation would only come about if two major nuclear powers went to war (such as the US and Russia). I don't think that's likely to happen.

However, I think the possiblity of smaller wars that could kill hundreds of millions of people, becomes more likely over time. As more and more countries get nuclear weapons, I think the chance of a smaller nuclear war grows more likely.
What is also worrisome is that nuclear power is within reach of poorer countries like North Korea who probably wouldn't hesitate to sell info to anyone who would pay.

Pakistan and North Korea are not dangerous, I think.
N.K infact is under chinese influence and Pakistan has a responsible government. The only thread is from Iran because a fanatic extrimist Islamic government has taken the power and is seriously trying to get nuclear weapon. If they succeed they give it to terrorist organization like Hamas and Nasrolla terrorist organization in Lebanon.

Yes, it is POSSIBLE -- but it will also affect them too so there are a lot of risks of anyone taking that kind of action. Please don't be afraid of it -- live your life day by day and enjoy what you have (no matter what it is) while you have it. I'm 49 and we feared this when I was a kid.....it's NOTHING NEW. You have to also understand that if a country took this type of action against the US, other countries WILL respond (regardless of the fact that Bush is my least favorite person or anyone elses).....so most of them do not want to risk it. AND TO TOP IT OFF, IF that were to happen, you will not know the difference after the fact so it's all okay......just be happy and enjoy your life and also PLEASE REMEMBER, these fears have been around for a LOT of years. I hope this makes you feel better -- at least a little. Don't feel doomed --- you'll waste good thoughts in your head and it's NOT worth it. BIG SMILES TO YOU!!!!

I don't know if it is inevitable or not. It is puzzling to me because everyone with and without nukes knows the result of using them effects everyone, not just the target. You would think that the people with the power would say "hey, perhaps we should destroy these as they will eventually kill us all if they go off". But then, who would have the power?

Probably a massive outbreak of a superbug such as staph or superflu is more likely. You know, the ones the CDC has an abundant stash of.

This was the mantra and the fear of the cold war ear, and it never happened. I don't think it will now either, but if it gets that close, I do hope some civilized country has enough guts to take the initiative and save us all!

No, the human race could be destroyed by a biologically engineered plague, asteroid collision, or other disaster before anyone hits the button.

I agree with your assesment of people.

No, If we were to kill each other off with guns and chemical weapons then nuclear annihilation would be impossible because nobody would be left.

It's possible, but I think a world wide famine is more likely. Our fertilizers are petroleum based.
