help me solve this

Hi,

For this question, if you want to solve for x alone, you have to set this equal to 0:

(x+8)(2x-3) = 0

Now, set each factor equal to zero:

x + 8 = 0

x = -8 <=== One possible answer

2x - 3 = 0

2x = 3

x = 3 / 2 <=== Second possible answer

As you can tell we got two different answers since if you used the FOIL method you would get a polynomial of degree 2.

I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Sincerely,

Andrew

Use the FOIL method. First Outer Inner Last.
x(2x)
x(-3)
8(2x)
8(-3)
Then collect like terms
