Let me get this straight... Your friend can call his wife "wifey" in front of people, but when THEY refer to her under the same reference, he has the nerve to be offended?
Your friend needs to grow up and learn that if he doesn't want certain things said to him, HE shouldn't say those things either.

Here's a nice generic answer to a question of this sort: If a friend is upset or uncomfortable with something you do then just don't do it. Although you may feel like a friend's request is silly, or uptight, or whatever, HE doesn't feel that way, so you respect HIS feelings, rather than trying to impose yours on him.

Why would other people refer to *his* fiance as 'wifey?'

your friend has a pet name for his wife, it is an intimate detail of there marrige that either he or both of them don't want to share, ... i totally understand, lots of people have pet names for their significant other that is just theirs , its a cutesy way of saying I love you. there nothing wrong with it. but if it really bothers him he should keep it a secret just between him and his wife and i do think it is inapropiate to refer to his wife as anything other than her given name or mrs. I would not be offended by his objection, I would be amused but respectful because after all arn't you his friend.
