would you let someone like Michael Vick be around your own children? i sure wouldn't. someone that is THAT heartless when it comes to an innocent animal CANNOT possibly have compassion for another human. your comparison is ridiculous.
in fact...in homes where there is domestic violence there have been indications of ANIMAL ABUSE first!

Dogs, and other companion animals, are loved because they are loyal and are great company. They're sweet, they're happy to see us when we come home, they're affectionate no matter how we look, what we say, what we do... their love is truly unconditional.
I really do prefer dogs to some people. People can be cruel, selfish, evil, greedy, and all while knowing the difference between right and wrong. A dog will never lie to you or try to deceive you... As for preferring to not have children, well that's every couple's personal decision. If people would rather have pets than children, that might be best for everybody. Why force people who don't want children to have them? That wouldn't be a good situation.
What Michael Vick did was disgusting and horrible. Being "human" as you say, and being a thinking, rational, moralistic being, supposedly more intelligent and more moral than animals... he knew that what he was doing was wrong. He was causing pain to animals... which he didn't care about at all. Do you think that's right? Do you think it's okay to cause harm to animals just because you might think they are below us? A person with half a heart and feelings would never do such a thing.... no matter if they think animals are equal to us or below us. To torture for fun is not the same as to eat or to use for work etc.
By the way, if Michael Vick had killed people, I don't think he'd be playing either. So why should he play for killing dogs? Because dogs aren't important?
An your comment about the officer killing in self defense... truly off base. What does that have to do with torturing someone or something for fun? To kill in self defense is acceptable... no matter if it's an animal or person. I'd shoot a dog or a lion that was attacking me the same I'd shoot a person.... That isn't the same at all as torturing something for pure entertainment and money.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with loving animals. Of course humans should be more important to someone than animals (sorry folks, but I don't believe in the 'Rainbow Bridge'...animals die and go back to the dust) I agree with what you say about how people love their animals more than their neighbors...it shouldn't be that way. However, I do think I prefer animals to children. And I disagree with what you said about Michael Vick:
"Think of Michael Vick. He is losing his freedom behind an animal. He killed dogs. Not people, dogs. How can Michael Vick lose his job, freedom, and respect by killing dogs and some man or officer across town gets respect for killing a person that they "thought" would harm them?" Many, many serial killers and child abusers start by abusing helpless animals. Still, I think that you are 3/4 right- humans ARE more important than animals. I'm an animal lover, but I don't let my love for animals become an obsession. I know all you 'dog lovers' out there are gonna give me 100 thumbs downs, but that's life.

why cant humans be passionate over dogs?? Can you not open your heart to an animal just becuase you eat other animals. Let me answer why some people would rather have a dog then a kid.
You dont have to put them in school, you dont need diapers, you can kennel them when you go to work. You can board them when you go on vacation. it doesnt cost 20,000-70,000 dollars To get one, you dont have to carry it for 9 months before you give birth. It only lives for 10-15 years. Once a baby is 15 years you have still just begun??? Should I keep going? Dogs are a GREAT alternative to children and that isnt, or shouldnt be a probem. Humans like to LOVE things. It doesnt always have to be another human,
And what did those dogs ever do to michael Vick?? Live?? No dog deserves to die because of Human stupidity!!!

So you have a problem with compassion? Two wrongs don't make a right. At least we care if people are hurting animals because guess what, those people also hurt other people. I have no sympathy what so ever for Michael Vicks. A heartless murderer is a heartless murderer and nothing more. As for my neighbors I would gladly save my dog over them because at least my dog is innocent and respectful which is more than I can say for the majority of the human population. My question is why are so many people void of compassion? Oh, and if thou art so holy then try this. "And for every slain beast god will require the lifeblood of man." Genesis 9:5.

Apparently you never had a dog. Dogs were the result of humans and wolves finding that they could co exist and have a relationship that was beneficial to both human and wolves. These were the first animal to be domesticated and the dog was bred overtime to be a part of human families. They have been a loyal servant in protection , hunting, warmth in the winter, he that lays down with dogs is something that was done for thousands of years. They are companions, food, protectors, hunting partners, baby sitters, any number of parts of our human history. So having passionate feelings for dogs is a normal thing for lots of people. Dogs can be attuned to crave human companionship as a natural part of their lives. And being that humans and dogs are pack or group living creatures they can fill a spot in your family as a natural part of both our natures. This isn't caring more for an animal than a human, it's caring for a part of our human history. Michael Vick had no right to drown, shoot or strangle these dogs, and the world is not becoming passionate over Dog's , They have been a part of the human family for thousands of years, and that is why the passion is as it is.

RE: "Think of Michael Vick. He is losing his freedom behind an animal. He killed dogs. Not people, dogs. How can Michael Vick lose his job, freedom, and respect by killing dogs"
> People who have no regard for animal life tend to not have regard for human life either. If you look into the history of many screwed up serial killers and such, they have a history of animal cruelty or torturing animals even when they were kids. Animal cruelty is not just a small thing, it can be an indicating of bigger psychological problems. The more people get away with cruelty to animals, the closer than get into thinking they can get away with harming humans as well.

Because you can control a dog and you can't control humans. So people take the easy way out and look towards dogs. God or whatever you want to call the higher being that people believe in he gives us challenges so we can learn and grow. When I have had a bad day I turn to my dog because she just listens with no objections. Like I say the easy way out, but then I realise my world truly is wonderful and facing the hard things just makes you stronger.
Dogs are a wonderful part of our lives but I think causing one a great deal of pain should be dealt with severly. On the same token we all need to stand up for all the human pain we all contribute to as well.

You are SOOOOO on in the wrong section. This site is for dog lovers. Take yourself over to the family part of Yahoo Answers-that is where you can preach about the "superiority" of the human race over animals. I am so sick of the people who come on here and try to say it is wrong to love dogs and defend helpless animals. You have your little monster children-I have my little monster dogs-and I bet mine are better behaved than yours.
Personally, I think Michael Vick should have been castrated for what he did.
You are obviously not a defender of the helpless-too bad for you.

First of all, mostly just English speaking countries don't eat dogs. Many other places include dog meat on their 'menu', as different cultures also include horse meat.
The thing about humans turning to dogs for companionship is that dogs don't lie. They don't cheat. They don't steal our money (although some do steal our roast off the kitchen table)Dogs appear to 'love' us unconditionally when we come home from a hard day out in the world. People who live with us may greet us with an arguement at the end of a long day.
For people who can not have children, dogs are dependent on us as a small child might be, helping to fill a void for a childless couple. But they can also save our lives by alerting us to fire, burglers, other attacking animals.
They save lives daily as our eyes for our blind citizens. They save the lives of our police officers. They protect YOU on planes by sniffing luggage for bombs. They can detect cancer in people by smell. They help people with siezures. They help paralyzed people retrieve dropped items, they hear for our deaf people. They herd and protect our flocks and herds. They help us hunt for meat for our table. (of course that is if we want wild game since everybody has a Safeway right down the street)
They save lives of depressed and lonely people who have no one to talk to or care for. Some are natural babysitters for children playing outside. They kill rodents who could run rampant and spread disease. Some dogs even connect people by being so cute that they start conversations between people.
Unfortunately they can also be trained to fight to the death for low lifes like you mention but for the most part, people are waking up to the many things that dogs do for us professionally and emotionally that seem to be far above what other humans can or WILL do for us. They don't complain, they don't insist on any wages. All they ask is affection in return.
So my question to you would be this: Why can't PEOPLE be more like DOGS?

If you truly believe in the adam and eve saga then you would think you would have a little more respect for god's creatures. any person that hurts another person or animal is truly twisted. why should those people enjoy freedom?
dogs over kids... where should i start? if you think children are the blessing of life and there's nothing else to it, then i feel sorry for you. try opening your mind and seeing everything around you. if you value all living things in life, then you would not make such closed minded comments.
