plato I thought my question was legit. I gave you a good rating because that is where most xmormons go when they leave mormonism. I was once where you are too. The truth is in the Bible and Jesus Christ alone. I dont claim to be an expert just a forgivn man, and I forgive you to.

Basically the first 3 verses warn not to follow a prophet that leads you away from the God of the Israelites, and toward false gods like Ra or Zeus. The rest expounds on the penalties for the false prophet or those who follow him away from God.

That's how I saw it as a Baptist, and that's how I see it as a Latter-Day Saint. I know of no Christian that sees it another way.

Who says there is a problem? Source please!
Skindancerdoctor? Your profile says you are an expert in several different areas! Congratulations1
It is a real pity that you don't have an expert opinion on self bigotry, and being an @sshole!
Everyone is entitled to an opinion on other religion! Not on the believer him/herself1
What an arrogant jerk you are! You one of the anti Mormon bashers types, that hit and run, like the cowards you all are!
Evidently you are so conceited, you fell you can so blithely make a statement such as the one you made, and it is perfectly all right!
Well, here is one atheist, telling you to keep your filthy mouth shut! It is slime bags like you that ''helped me to become an atheist in the first place! You really know how to turn people away from Christianity!
My mom always told me'' If you can't say something nice, be quiet'! I guess that among a whole lot of other things, that would be one more thing YOUR mom forgot to teach you!
EDIT":
Darling, I didn't say anything to you to be forgiven for! My comments were directed at that moron, skincancerdoctor, not you! But, I forgive you, too!

Actually it doesn't say anything about mistakes- it actually says:
1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
Deut 13:2
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
Deut 13:3
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams; for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
it's saying that if his prediciton comes to pass and then he says okay lets follow other gods and so forth, to not follow him. None of the prophets of the LDS church have ever asked members to follow or worship any other god except God Himself. The same God that reigns supreme, the same Jesus Christ that died on the cross and atoned for our sins- the same God that these scriptures command us to love with all our heart. And these things stated in these scriptures- to love God with all our heart, and to cleave unto him (this is further on in the chapter) is the very things that our modern day prohpets have always counciled us to do- so i am not seeing the problem. It's people like Warren Jeffs and others like him that this bible chapter is warning against. Not the prophets of the LDS church.

Without going into a long drawn out explanation, let me offer the following.

At the time Deut. 13 was written, the people (some of them leastways) were involved in idol worship. It is this that Deut 13 was warning against.

If you take this the way you seem to be, then you invalidate the entire new testament.

Bottom line is this. The Lord lives, his church lives and continuing revelation from him keeps it alive.

Maybe if you shared how you interpret it then we might be able to help. It looks to me that it talks about not being lead astray by anyone, whether they be family, friends, or "prophets."

However, the whole killing people because the violate the law, was done away with through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

A mormon knocked on my door one day and shared this verse with me. I replied "Jesus talked to everyone. He took it as an opportunity to witness to everyone. Don't you think we should spread the word to those who need it too? Isn't that what you're doing?"

..of course they had no real answer. lol

I'm guessing that was the same verse, based on what the first answerer said. But it was the one she's talking about either way. sorry if it's the wrong one. I'm not going to go look it up.

No LDS prophet has asked us to worship another God -- only God the Father just as Moses, Abraham and all the wholly prophets did.

You are asking us to @$$/u/me that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, but I don't see it myself. He never made a FALSE prophecy.
