Society has faith in it's own abilities - no matter it singularly fails to deal with most problems.

Society as a whole simply doesn't need religion the same way it use to.
The more our collective knowledge base grows...the more we study and learn about physical and applied sciences... the less we need folklore and fairy tales to explain away the things we once feared.
I guess you could say society has "lost faith in religion"...I simply think of it as society outlasting religions' usefulness.
**Edit**
Some of you apparently fell that "God" and "religion" are synonymous based on your answers...that's scary!! The question is not..."Is God real?"...the question is..."Has society lost faith in religion?" If you don't understand the BIG DIFFERENCE between the two...you'd probably be wise to keep your opinion to yourself!!

Societies and cultures come and go, but in every one of them, there are those with a strong spiritual side. Even in the Soviet Union - probably one of the most spiritually repressive societies to ever exist - there were many who secretly practiced their faith. When the Soviet Union dissolved, the churches and cathedrals were again frequented by believers.
I think our society - if that's the one you are referring to - has placed an inordinate amount of 'faith' in the scientific method to arrive at 'truth'. There are many truths that defy an absolute scientific construct, but they remain true. For example, I know that I love my wife and family, but I can't prove it. I just know that it is true. And that will never go out of style in any society.

I think there is more choice and evidence about religion(s). Science has evolved so that there are other possible answers. People haven't lost faith in religion, I believe people want to explore and find the answer that makes most sense to them.

Yes, and I say that by looking at all the churches that have been left to ruin over the years.Sunday church meetings for my parents generation was a way of life.No kids would be playing on the streets on a Sunday when Sunday school was open.
My generation see religion as an excuse for wars.

yes, which is not a bad thing. What we need to do is stop talking about the rules man have made in church and get back to living the life Jesus came to give us, freedom and joy. Jesus, when he is shown through believers who truly know him and reflect him, is a magnet, people flock to hear about him, and only through knowing him can society be changed.
I go to a new frontiers church which seeks to show the love of Jesus to all comers.

No, I think more people are starting to open their eyes to the dangers of religion..the murders, wars etc. It is one thing to be strong in your beliefs, it is another to judge or harm others because of them.
