Ghost town. It epitomised the time we were living in with 1 in 10 jobless and a massive recession, especially in the West Midlands. Industry was being torn apart by a combination of foreign competition and an unsupportive government who wanted to turn the UK into a nation of shopkeepers. This is what the song is really about.
