I can remember being about seven years old and seriously hoping I was dead before I ever got to 30 because that was just SO OLD! I wondered how (and why) people of 40 or above were even still managing to creep about the planet unassisted. Now I'm nearly 36 and I have revised these opinions slightly. The best age to be is the age you are, because you can't change it anyway so just enjoy it.

The officially OLD AGE is 10 years on from your present age when over 70. You stop being young when you watch the same programmes as your parents and discuss them together. Middle age is around 60. The best age to be is what you are NOW. Provided that you could stop there.

Cigaro 19, when I was a younger person I believed that 30 was the magic number and we were taught to not trust people over that age. Well as I aged all of a sudden 30 looked pretty good. As for an age that defines officially being old I haven't the foggiest. I know people who are in their 80's but live as if they were in their 30's. But I also know people who are in their 20's and living live as if they were in their 80's. We stop being young when we stop learning and stop having a sense of humour. When it is more important to look for the faults in people rather then their qualities. Middle age has changed over the years also. It used to be viewed as 40's but now I think it has changed to the 50's or 60's. As for the best age to be, for me it is right now. I am 52 years young and have never been happier at any time in my life. Sorry for rambling on so long but feels good to let the world know that age is just a number and it is how we live that determines whether or not we are getting old.

Ten years older than you are!

If people live to be about 80 wouldn't the mid-range for this age be 54? Young would be the first third of that 80 or about to age 27. Then 28 to 54 "middle" age. And 55 to 80 "old" age! But that isn't the way it really is and we all know it. When you are 22, 50 seems old. When you are 50, 80 seems old. But young is only as young as you feel and old is only as old as you feel. I'm 58. Some days I feel ancient and others I feel as though I could go out and dance all night!

I don' t know about the best age, but I'd much rather be the age I am now than to be in my teens or twenties again. You start getting wiser, finally, in your thirties, and by the time you reach your fifties you know you're getting old and would like to be younger--but know then what you know now, and you only want to be younger because you were healthier!!!

I'm 54; I should probably consider myself middle-aged, but since the average lifespan is around 78 for women, that SHOULD mean that middle age starts at 39!

I think I might use the word "old" for someone over 70, say.

There is no best age; I reckon my mid to late thirties were pretty brilliant, but then again, I am having a ball at the moment too!

I'm not sure what you mean by "what age do you stop being young?"

My mum is 76, and will refer to a neighbour of 65 as "a young man"....being young , I consider to be a state of mind, and I'm sorry, but there are no limits to being youthful...I know 20 year olds who are old and boring....my father remained lively, fun and fascinating well into his 80s; his idea of a good day out was to load up the car with kids and grandkids and bags of rubbish sweets, and go to the nearest park to play wild games of chasing and hide and seek.

See what I mean?

i say ur only as old as u feel. so you could be 50 and feel 20. and you could be 50 and feel 80. so everyones different. even an 80yr old cld feel 40 but not often they do lol.
i think old is around 85-90. altho i hav a theory that in several years time scientists will of come up wiv sum kind of medicine to help people live longer. i mean if u can get so called antiaging creams n stuff, then a few more steps n its antiaging all together lol
as to the what age do u stop being young. i think thats its stupid ppl tellin sumone who behaves like a child at 20 to grow up cos wen u grow up u end up getting old. so i say be young for as long as possible. im 21 and have the mental n physical age of a 12yr old, but thats partly cos of health probs, and no im not a drawf or have that other illness where they call u mongles, or whatever its called. sorry i dnt kno the name lol

Old - 75
You stop being young when you're 50
Middle aged is 55
The best age to be is 30
(That's my view as a 40 year old).

When I was 20 I thought:
Old - 60
Stop being young at 40
Middle aged 50 and
Best age 25

23 is a great age to be. You're old enough not to be naive, but young enough to be full of dreams and aspirations. I personally think you stop being 'young' at 30 (i.e. you should no longer go out dressed in skimpy outfits, clubbing until the early hours) and I think you become 'old' when you retire (i.e. you're no longer in the rat race). Of course everyone's views are different, but this is what I think. I also think you can be happy at any age as long as you don't try to be younger or older than you really are.

This is how you feel. I know that old is not an age but how you feel. I know a 50 year old who thinks they are old and hobbles around, and a 80 year old that owns her own buisness and works 48 hours a week and she gets along just as good as me at 26. I would say the 50 year old is old because that is how they feel and present themselves. If you feel old, your old. I say between 30 - 40 would be middle aged. I work in healthcare and 50-60 is not old. You start to get old at 70.

"old " and "young" is a state of mind not a number!

You can be "young" at 80 is your outlook on life is fresh and enthusiastic and you do your best to live each day to the max.

You can be "old" at 21 if you are jaded, and have given up on your dreams.

Middle aged is around 40-50 I'd say.
