As i got older some of my parents tastes have influenced mine and vice versa....for example, Dad introduced me to Louis Prima and R&B (the "real R&B), which I just love. He also got me liking Jazz

I got Mum into GnR and the Pet Shop Boys in the 90's and Dad can handle Moby and even a little bit of house / dance (from his aerobic days - lol).

Mum and and Dad introduced me to Genesis and Queen and Manhattan Transfer, however there are a few artists that will never be liked by me (mainly Mum.....Michael Bolton....John Farnham.....say no more)!

they both have a very low opinion of Rap and Hip Hop, which I don't mind (depending on who it is). They hate any form metal, but they do like reggae.

Yes, it's possible, I bet a lot of parents and kids like the same kind of music today.

My parents and I on the other hand........we have TOTALLY different tastes.

My dad and I both love classical music, as well as polka and some folk music.

He loves circus music, which I hate, and I love all genres and sub-genres of rock, which he hates.

Oh well.

Personally, I think it's rather common for parents and kids to have some of the same musical interests. I can think of several of my friends who borrow music from their parents, and vice-versa.

I like the same music as my parents, but that's only cause I got so used to it that I started liking it! :P

Is there something preventing you from exploring different new music, or are you hopelessly locked into one type of music by peer pressure?

I am 49. My son is 26. I take him to concerts like Godsmack and Staind, and Korn. He takes me to concerts like Slipknot and Lamb of God. So it does happen .
