Yes they do and I'm a 46 year old man.
I'm not originally from this part of south yorkshire but here some straight men call each other love.
I nearly freaked the first time it happened to me but it happens all the time now. Now i often say, sorry mate i'm straight so it's no point coming on to me like that. I know that they didn't mean it like that so their reaction is always funny.
Being called love is not nearly as strange as being called kock (but spelt with a C). The second day i arrived i left a shop and the woman said to me "See ya Kock" I thought my flies were undone or something

I call them that. It's a habit. They wouldn't dare smack me, cause I'm too dang old. How's that answer, Sweetie? No seriously. I got into the habit when I started having babies and their friends started hanging out here at home. (sometimes they even thought they were gonna move in) It never bothered any of them and they're all grown now. Although all of them still call me Mama too and it don't offend me. Shoot. It makes me feel good.

Yes. I lady at a store I shop called me sweetie. I thought she was trying to come on to me. As weeks went by and I noticed she does it as a habit. Not to offend. I no longer mind. She calls men and women sweetie. With some people I mind with others I don't.

They do sometimes, but something as trivial as being called love or sweetheart does not bother me...mostly they are trying to be nice or is comes to them automatically without thinking...better than other names you could be called!

Sometimes. If the person seems harmless it usually doesn't bother me but if the guy saying it seems like he's being a pervert it annoys the hell out of me and I will usually tell him I am not his "babe", "sweetheart" or whatever.

SOmetimes guys call me baby especially when I'm at work. The male customers will sometimes say something like Can you hand me some ketchup baby or something like and sometimes it's annoying because i don't even know those losers

When I first moved to the UK it really flumoxed me. It rather un-nerved me.
Now I am used to it and I don't mind.
If I was a woman I would be offended by the way it is sometimes used.
