If u really want him to loose the weigh.. then u have to start a schedule.. and everyday at the same time.. get his leash.. and take him for a walk to the park or around the block . You can measure it in the car.. but it needs to be 1-2 miles a day..
get a bike and ride while he runs beside u..
he must be active if u want him to loose the weight..
if u have a old clothes line pole/ then go get a regular tire from a car.. and put a chain threw it and hang it on the clothes line Pole.. he will learn to chase it.. u can hide meat inside which will make him want to play with it..
good luck...

Get your dog more physically active through play and exercise. Leave the other dog at home if you have to. Any type of playing with your dog is good because it will raise his heartrate and burn off those extra calories. Besides, you'll also get a good workout in the process. If you have a treadmill at home, you can even pop your dog on it for while...just make sure he's secure on there, and start it off slow. You don't want him flying off the other end.
You may have also heard this many times, but do NOT feed your dog from your table during meal times, and especially don't give any type of human junk food. It only encourages begging and consumption of calories that will just add onto your dog's weight. Instead, have your dog self-feed (keeping food and water out all day) or feed your dog smaller meals throughout the day. During your meal times, have your dog away from the table so that he can bother you and others for food. The "down/stay" command will work very well here.
Hope this helps

A consistent schedule that puts him with you on a walk twice a day for at least thirty minutes is a good idea. You can take both dogs, but that consistent workout would help a lot.
You might try throwing the ball with him for 20 minutes a day as well, but alone with the other dog inside so your dog that doesn't usually get the ball will be able to get it and be more encouraged to run and play.
In addition, you could take his normal portion of food and do not lessen the amount. Instead, divide that amount into two portions and feed one in the am and one in the pm. The feedings could correspond to the walks, like and early morning walk and then 1st meal, and evening walk and then 2nd meal.
Consistent exercise is a key.

Also, give him treats that are healthy hard crunchy biscuits and a weekly sinfully delicious treat. My dogs love doggie ice-cream and each get a "Frosty Paws" ice-cream cup once a week. This is made for dogs and sold in grocery stores. You might have to call your local large grocery store and ask if they have it in stock or will they please GET it. It's not particularly healthy, but the dogs go NUTS over it and it is real refreshing for them.
In my city, its sold in Kroger's, Randall's and a Super Target nearby and comes in a square shaped box containing four cups of ice-cream.
Portion control will help greatly in aiding your dog in losing a bit of weight. Avoid giving your dog left overs that contain gravies, sauces, carbs (rice, potatoes) fatty meats. In fact, avoid leftovers for the most part.
We give ours occasional pieces of meat (no sauces, fat or seasoning). Sometimes I boil chicken breast for salad and pour a little of the stock over their food. Since it is skinless, there is virtually no fat but there is flavor.

Same as with people ... eat less and exercise more. Are you feeding him table scraps or too many dog-treats? If so, cut down or eliminate those. Simply reducing the amount of food that you give him every day will result in safe, gradual weight-loss. And exercise will keep him strong and healthy. Good Luck.

Dogs lose weight the same way people lose weight. Less food + more excercise. It's as simple as that.
