I always made up my mind that if I would ever get called for jury duty, I would simply stand up and say my piece. No, I could not participate in the jury system because I have heard way too many horror stories about cases in which vital information that would have been hugely relevant to the case was forcibly withheld from the jury because the judge decided it would have an inappropriate influence detrimental to the case in one direction or the other. The jury may have brought in a Not Guilty verdict, only to discover that they had turned loose a vile individual with a long history of exactly the same kind of wrongdoing. Or alternatively, they had convicted a person whom, had they been allowed to hear vital additional information, they would have never convicted, but brought in a verdict of Not Guilty because of lack of clear, decisive evidence. Those jury members often have spent the rest of their lives, tortured by the decision they made because they had not been allowed to hear ALL the evidence.
When I came before my questioners for it to be determined what kind of a jurist I might make, I would have no hesitation in stating exactly what I felt about this practise. If you think that I am educated enough, or intelligent enough, or stable-minded enough to be able to evaluate the facts of the case and make a decision, then surely I ought to be capable of weighing every shred of evidence there is, and not just what has been carefully edited by a judge.

It is horrifying enough to realise that there have been hundreds of individuals who were "up-to-the-gills" guilty, but turned loose; and hundreds of others who have been condemned to many years in prison for something of which they were innocent, because of this arbitrary withholding of pieces of evidence from the jury. I guarantee, I will never allow myself to become a participant in such a miscarriage of justice.

Served on 3 juries and No never had that happen.

+++++++ Creole a cop is NOT necessarily exempt they have the OPTION It's just not a good risk for a cop to be on jury in the view of defense attorney when selection/disqualifing.
