For financial what? You know, there's the additional details section for a reason.

For the most part, whatever discharge you're given, is what you're stuck with for eternity.

But at least with a general he's eligible for help from the VA, provided he was in for at least two years.

Contact them. They are probably his best bet.

Greetings! I just checked to see if I had answered your question previously...yep, I did.

Now then...A General Discharge is something else all together. Depending on the charge, usually a person will have a two year period (kind of like a probation after being arrested) where he can go on with life without having any infractions with civilian law authorities.. If he completes the two years, he can petition the VA to upgrade the discharge to honorable, then he can have all the VA benefits that can come his way.

My guess is that the only caveat is what he was discharged for. I don't know what things can be corrected or not. He can always call the VA and find out.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't a dishonorable discharge. That truly would have been disastrous for him.
