They claim to be the moral majority but are less like Jesus than any other group of people. Why is religion involved at all in politics anyway?

It isn't just you. It isn't just them.

Don't get sucked into political bigotry so that you can't see the flaws of the other parties (including mine, Democratic).

We all do it. Fight the behavior, not the party.

At the same time, they have to have their own conception of what is best for everyone. The alternative is that we all run around convinced we don't dare speak up about what we think will help the country for fear someone will...

...accuse us of 'thinking we know what is best for everyone'.

Your question is just a technique for silencing others who have their own idea of how to help our country (a patriotic act, regardless of what party does it).

Second point you made: Why is religion involved in politics anyway.

There are three approaches to the universe:
1) Science (dealing with things that are testable and repeatable.

2) Philosophy (dealing with things that are testable OR repeatable, but not both)

3) Beliefs (dealing with things that are not testable OR repeatable).

We need all of them. Imagine a world where you couldn't take a guess about anything that anyone else hadn't already thought about unless it was testable or repeatable. Or at the very least, couldn't share them.

That's not my America.

That's all there is to religion, save they share a common belief. They base some of their decisions on that belief. Since the belief can't be disproved, and thus the alternative (God does NOT exist) can't be proved, it is just as valid an approach to reality as those who believe (note that it is a belief) that God does not exist.

Our country was founded partially on the following:
"Bill of Rights
Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

There is no law saying government shall remove religion from it's employees, or that the members of government cannot express their religion in their choices and in their surroundings.

The present drive to remove all religion by law is directly against the Constitution.

We prize ourselves on our freedoms, even those we might disagree with.

I'm not religious.

I am a patriot.

Freedom is also very important to me as a Democrat.

no youve actually got it backward..they know what ISNT good and how to fight it by maintaining principles and self reliance in a job and function in life preformed well...for example. .
i know what is...is..
i believe there is nothing wrong, illegal, or immoral about giving the american public back more of what they legitimately earn.
taxes dont embolden an economy, contrary to liberal dogma, they STIFLE IT.
i believe lying under oath regardless of subject is still lying and should be punishable by JAIL TIME...not a heart felt public confession
i believe the national language of the us is and should be english...learn that and the rules of society or go home. try to go to Vincente Fox in Mexico and demand equal rights and see what happens as an illegal american alien.
i believe that business creates jobs and commerce, not governent and burdensome regulation doesnt help business it stifles it and jobs.
i also believe outsourcing happens when unions force wages to a level not representing value of work preformed and protection of union thugs hurts not only the economy, but society in gerneral.
i also believe that if you knowingly and willingly live in an area prone to national disaster and dont accomidate for it , you should definitely not expect the government to bail you out for your bad and innacurate planning.

i think you see my point. it isnt whats right, its whats wrong. tax and spend, cut and run and ridiculous welfare and sociast schemes that were seeing now from the liberal extremist power grab of 06, dont work period. i believe in self reliance and a fundamental axiom from long ago...if you need money...GET A JOB...

perhaps this doesnt work for you or your friends but know this. this country existed just fine until 1914 without the social welfare and confiscatory taxation rates the liberals seem to think is so necessary. i dont think the right answer lies with me or you but somewhere in the middle. try to convince the pelosi/reid regime of that. fat chance.

Conservatives only care about themselves. They are the antithesis of what Jesus was.

The problem isn't conservatism but ego. Every group seems to think they know what is beat for all.

I have NO idea what is best for everyone.
What evidence you have conservatives are less like Jesus? Do you have to be Christian to be a conservative?

I think the more strident people in any political organization think they know what is best for other people...it is human nature.

It's just you, I don't involve religion in my ideals. And yes, conservatives know what is best.

I'm a conservative and I don't know what's best for everyone.

Maybe "many" people, but certainly not "everyone."

Thanks for not putting words in my mouth (or others.)

If you want higher taxes, socialized medicine ( where you won't get to choose your own doctor ), and a country that's weak in defending itself, then go ahead and install your Democratic liberals in office...

Yep, it's just you.

Conservatives are just trying to preserve the values we hold dear, through our elected representatives - because Liberals keep trying to destroy these values through unelected officials in our court system.
