We have a nation in chaos:
-open borders and a country where drug dealers have more power than the police
-leaders who say whatever it takes to get them re-elected (most of the senate doesn't worry about this, they stay in office because they continue to move their districts to ensure victory)
-a war that is being fought, it no longer matters what got us there, we're at war! get over it and behind the troops (sometimes it sounds like siblings bickering over a lollypop that was broken a year ago)
-sex scandals, money scandals, ____ scandals (you fill it in)
-ILLEGAL aliens who have more rights than the citizens who are legal residents-sorry, but there is something wrong when someone has the right to break the law-it makes no sense-I can't rob a bank and complain that the money I got-or can I? If you don't like the way you're treated - go home! (I'm Mexican!)

I can go on all day long; the housing market, outsourcing, unfair trade relations, etc, etc, etc...
When does it end?

Why does it always come back to money? And why do we have to start sounding like politicians?
paper image, you sound like them. Some might find it difficult to believe however, the last time I checked the president's staff consisted of thousands of individuals. These individuals are the ones who actually make the decisions he decides which one he wants to implement and that decision is usually based on who has the biggest mouth or the biggest wallet. And the last time I checked the Constitution it made no requirement for anyone running for office to have lots of money. That is totally a facade that Americans have come to believe is a requirement. I would bet anything you are one of those people who believe the internet should have the same right of free speech as individuals? If so the internet has been used by individuals to bankrupt large corporations - why not run a campaign? How much would that take the average, no coffee making Joe?

A truly excellent leader is just that excellent. Never mediocre. Also a truly excellent leader is brave and not all that interested in the poles. Further such a leader can not be bought and access to that leader can not be bought.

We had such leaders in the beginning and they wrote our constitution. They are all dead and so is this country they started. It just isn't cold yet but it won't take long. We will not be defeated by terrorism but like Rome of old by corruption within.

Sad to watch isn't it?

This is for Grae:

How do you know that a regular Joe is not one of the brightest people who would be just right for the job?

Many regular Joes have the knowledge and know how to do all of the jobs the politicians were elected to do.

The trouble with you is you believe that these people who are running are there because the are smarter the the regular Joes.

WAKE UP!!

The majority of the people running for political offices are there because they have money or are backed by big business who have the money.

Please do some honest, unbiased, and open minded research on the backgrounds of each candidate and their supporters.

Then do some honest, unbiased, and open minded research on the backgrounds of each local (city, county) candidate and their supporters.

Good Luck.

Prove to the rest of the country that you can do it. Unfortunately, when it comes to the presidency, that's hard to do.

The "normal Joes" of our nation would probably find it difficult to make coffee in the White House, let alone run it successfully for four to eight years. Being qualified for any office in the federal government takes years of hard work, and proving to enough Americans that you've done what it takes requires even more hard work. Oh, and money, let's never forget how much money it takes to get elected, or even appointed.

Believe me, a "normal Joe" does not have what it takes.

Frankly, for regular Joes to take over the government, they couldn't be regular Joes any more. I don't really believe that we should have regular Joes in office, anyway. I personally prefer that the best and brightest be in office -- not that that's what we necessarily have now, but things wouldn't be better if an absolutely average man or woman were in charge.

To answer your main question...... it takes millions of dollars for a normal Joe to win a election, just the same as a paid politician.
If I could come up with the money, I'd be willing to serve as the President of the USA. Elect me.!!!!

Everybody should vote for a "third" party and shun the two biggest. But since most people can't be convinced to do that, a series of general strikes might get their attention.
