What's the criteria?
Calling baseball the king of all sports is their preference and right that they choose to.
I wouldn't call baseball the king of all sports either, and no, it doesn't seem that there is much being done in baseball and there isn't. However, because of that, baseball players must have a LOT of concentration.
Every sport and every position in every sport require a certain level of skill and concentration.
Take a moment and think about each sport and what is required of the player(s) just to play; then think about how much is required for the player(s) to be successful.
I wouldn't call any sport the king of sports.

I've never heard baseball called "the king of all sports," or anything like that. Maybe that's a South American thing, but here it's just known as America's pastime.

As for the name "World Series," there are a few things:

1) First, the name was given over 100 years ago when America dominated the baseball world. They wanted a catchy name, and World Series fit the bill. It wasn't anything that didn't make sense at the time.

2) Technically, it's not only American teams competing. There is a team in Toronto, and all teams have a pretty international mix on their rosters.

3) The major leagues are still miles above any other club level of baseball played in Japan or elsewhere. Were we to take the best MLB team and match them against the best Japanese team, it would be a huge blowout. For an example, just look at the series this past offseason between some MLB stars and Japan's best - it wasn't even close. Simply put, the team that wins MLB's World Series is truly the best team in the world.

Toronto also competes and there used to be a team in Montreal. Not to mention that there are now players from all over Latin America, Canada, Asia and even some from European. Believe it or not, every player is supposed to be moving on every single pitch, people don't always notice because they are so intent on watching only the batters. It's the king of all sports because it has been around longer than all the others. Oh and in soccer don't the goalies just stand around not doing much while the ball is on the other side of the field? You can make an argument in different parts of the world that one sport is "bigger" than another. But baseball in Japan is actually perceived as part of the culture. In Latin America it is a way for children to grow up.

There is nothing harder in sports than hitting a round ball with a rounded piece of wood. The only thing harder in sports would be to throw a curve ball into a 1 foot square. There is more strategy in baseball than in basketball or soccer or football for that matter. Every play in baseball can't be played 100 different ways. That's what makes it such a great game.

It's called the World Series because it sounds cool!

I love MLB, but when someone calls it "the king of sports", I know that's only their opinion; and you know what opinions are like. You cant tell a rabid soccer, football or basketball fan that baseball is the king of all sports. So again, a statement like that is just somebodies opinion. If it bothers you, ignore it.

The defense is half of the game, so who you have standing in left field is important, unlike soccer not everyone has to be lightning fast, you can hide guys that mash the ball. (hit the ball well)

This is not a game of maintenance where the players are developing a strategie to out witt the other players, that is the coaches job in baseball. As a player you can be asked to do alot of different things, but its when you are asked to do them at a split second is how you are measured. Save all energy until you are called on, then perform to your best ability.

It is my favorite sport, hands down.

Because it is Americans past time.

You can go out to the ball game, eat a Hot Dog, watch a game and root for the home team!

Football is different, you have a bunch of drunk adults in a stadium throwing beer bottles and cans around and cursing the whole time.
