"The tourism industry generates substantial economic benefits to both host countries and tourists' home countries. Especially in developing countries, one of the primary motivations for a region to promote itself as a tourism destination is the expected economic improvement. As with other impacts, this massive economic development brings along both positive and negative consequences." ~~United Nations Environment Programme

Here is a terrific link to the UN's page on the Economic Impacts of Tourism,
http://www.uneptie.org/pc/tourism/sust-tourism/economic.htm

You can also go to the Tourism home page:

There is also a group called the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Here is a link:
http://www.wttc.org/

The WTTC works to raise awareness of Travel & Tourism as one of the world's largest industries, employing approximately 231 million people and generating over 10.4 per cent of world GDP.

Good luck on your paper. Do some reading. I'd love to know how you do on your paper. Once very active in my area Chambers of Commerce, I know too well that there is a lot of responsibility when you attempt to develop tourism in an area. You might want to contact local business leaders who are responsible for tourism in your area.

Tourism is not an upcoming industry. America is the number 1 tourist destination on Earth. And many other countries on this planet rely on tourism as their sole source of real income.

Good luck on your project.
