his whole family does not have green cards, they are here illegally. A policeman did come to their house and ask for some type of id, and said he would be back. Is it possible if they were to find out they would be deported back to their country of origin?

He can be deported, if there is a warrant and people are helping him hide they can be charged with accessories obstruction of justice etc. And why the hell does it sound like you're excusing his behavior of hitting a women?

Well, you don't know whether anyone else in his family is legal or not. For all you know, they could have applications pending.

If a person is in the US illegally, then the commission of a crime doesn't matter a whole lot, does it? Being illegal is a violation of the law in the first place.
If someone decides to press charges, then the person is first convicted in criminal court, serves his/her time and is then turned over to the immigration authorities and there will be another court proceeding in which they determine whether or not to deport him/her.
