Unless your pH is outside the range of 6-8.5 you shouldn't need to adjust it unless you're keeping wild-caught fish, or species such as discus or African cichlids that are very sensitive to pH levels. Most fish are quite adaptable, and you do them more harm by trying to adjust the pH and having it fluctuate, than just acclimating your fish for a while longer when you get them, and allowing them to live in the water you can provide.

If your pH is outside the range given, you can add driftwood to lower the pH, or some shells or crushed coral to raise it.

Visit your local pet store and ask for the ph solution ... a few drops in the tank and it will assist you in keeping the ph balanced between cleanings.

It IS very important also that you clean your tank regularly ... especially if you have gold fish which secrete a high level of ammonia elements into the water.
