The JSF (X-35, F-35, Lightning II) ( They need a better name for it.) isn't to bad from what I have seen. Four different versions for every branch of the military but with many interchangeable parts makes it easier on the military to do thier job. Where in the past each branch had their own birds to deal with.

I still have some reservations about that Marine plane. Something about VTOL makes me quesy. I always think of the Osprey.

There will be under 350 F-22 built, but in WWII 300 Buffalo aircraft were lost to accidents alone. Also 350 F-22 can't cover anything and will probably cost as much as the couple thousand aircraft they will replace. Also the F-22 is maxed out in technology, meaning there will probably be nothing new added to it. On the other side the anti aircraft missiles will probably beat it out in 20 years. Anti-aircraft missiles can already out fly the F-22 and the army already has AI technology that can tell the difference between brush and barbed wire so it's just a matter of time for a program written to tell the difference between the aircraft and the decoy.

Past the F-22, the new aircraft would have to be pilot-less to increase the capability to outmaneuver the new missiles.

With vectored thrust they are a lot more maneurvable and the newest US jets have some stealth ability as well. Electronics impove as fast as computers do as well, so the avionics are always getting better as well.

They are freakin' awsome. As far ahead of an F-15 as an F-15 is ahead of an F-86.

We sure have the best weapons to fight the last war. The trouble is al-Queda refuses to stand and fight like the Japanese.
