Not only are bayonets still a part of training in the US and British militaries, there was even a 'bayonet charge' used in Iraq to get out of an ambush - so bayonets are definitely still used in combat even if only rarely.

It occurred in 2004 with Scottish troops if you want to look it up and read about.

At least in the US they still issue bayonets unless you are issued a weapon that cannot be fitted with one, then you get a fighting knife.

A bayonet is a close combat weapon and is not used too often. Close combat does at times happen even today although it is rare. Therefore you should know how to use a bayonet and have one available, if not then you should at least have a fighting knife.

Cpl. Robert J. Mitchell USMC was awarded the Navy Cross for action in Iraq. In the citation he is described as "With his rifle inoperable, he drew his combat knife, stabbed the insurgent, and eliminated him instantly. " I don't know for sure if it was his bayonet or his K-Bar, but yes, knives are still used in combat, just not very often. Personally, I don't want to get that close thank you. That's why I shot expert on the range!! But, things happen, weapons jam or become damaged. You do what you gotta do to stay alive.

They still have bayonets but they are rarely if ever mounted, a lot of people I know use them just as a knife, or a wire cutter if need be.

Yes, the are still issued in the US Army. You train to use them in basic training, AIT, and Ranger school but that is about it. I was in for five years and only ever trained with them once. They are good for crowd control to intimidate people not to come to close. I have never even heard of someone actual stabbing someone with it, and I did a tour in Iraq.

Yes they are still around, and they are not used too often anymore. Its usually easier to shoot now since you have 30 rounds instead of just 10 or so as they did in Korea and WWII.
